“I trust you God, but I can’t wait any longer…” (Prayer included)

This is a topic we all find ourselves guilty of at some point in our lives. Some of us are still battling with this issue, while others can recall how they have struggled with this topic…. The topic of impatience…

How often do we find ourselves saying we trust God, yet we are impatient. We are not only impatient about the “when” of the expected outcome, but also impatient about what the expected outcome will be.

Have you ever traveled to a destination that you knew was going to take a long time? If it was going to take 10 hours to get to your destination, surely you would not go to the cockpit and rush the pilot or talk to the driver to speed things up? You will accept that the pilot/driver knows what they are doing, you will accept the course of the journey and you will keep yourself busy, being patient about when you will arrive at your destination.

So how is it that you can patiently put your faith in the hands of a fellow human being, to arrive when you need to arrive, yet you cannot have faith, patience, or trust in your Creator to bring you to your next destination? The One who has THE best intentions for you, sees all, knows all and asks of you to trust in Him and His timing. How is it that you can peacefully fall asleep in the car or on the plane, yet you lie restless in bed worrying about what tomorrow will bring and worried about the outcome of any given situation?

Matthew 6:34″Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

You see, we are bound in time, and we hardly ever look at a particular moment in our life, from a 40-foot view. We are so focused on the problem that we are facing now, that we miss all the times we faced similar issues and got through them, in the past. More often than not, we also envision our problems way bigger than God. We think things like “God is putting this problem on my path to teach me a lesson”, “God is doing this to punish me”, “God is not removing this problem because I deserve this”, instead of thinking “Well, He who lives in me in stronger than anything or anyone in the world, I should instead turn to Him rather than focus on the problem. I should focus on the solution, which is always God. I should patiently await the best outcome given by God and trust that whatever it is, the purpose is to mold me and to move me in His will, not my own.”

Let’s look at what the Bible says about patience:

Psalms 37:7-97 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.

John 14:1 Do not let your heart be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight.

Philippians 4:6-7 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…”

– Galatians 5:22-23

It boils down to faith and trust, and it all rolls over into a negative spiral if you lack faith and trust in God. Without faith in God, we do not trust God. When we do not trust God, we do not trust that the outcome of our lives is in our best interest. When we do not trust that God has the best intentions for our lives, we question His guidance and therefore we are impatient, because when we expect what we are waiting for, we think that what WE want, is in our best interest, and we do even want to THINK of any other outcome, other than what we are expecting.

We are thus telling God that we do not have faith in Him or in what He is planning for our lives, what His outcome is for our lives are/or the timing thereof. How can we then truly call ourselves Christians when we lack faith and trust in God?

Aks yourself today, in which areas of your life are you not fully trusting God? In which areas of your life do you find yourself being impatient about the outcome? What have you not yet surrendered to God?

Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit to show you what you need to surrender and then pray this prayer:

Jesus, I come to you today with my hands stretched out. In my hands I place all my worries and troubles. Jesus, I have been holding onto these worries so tightly, thinking I know what the best outcome should be or thinking that I can fix this myself, but I can’t. Jesus, I know that you have never expected of us to ONLY come to You with certain problems, but that you want to be the answer to EVERYTHING we go through in life. You want us to turn to You for EVERYTHING, so I am handing EVERYTHING to you now Lord, big and small. Jesus, I know I will NEVER understand myself the way You understand me. I will never know what is truly best for me, like You do. Help me to grow in my faith and trust in You so I can patiently await the outcome of any given situation. Holy Spirit I pray all Your fruits become abundant in my life. Jesus, just like John 16:33 reads: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world”, fill me with Your peace God, because You have already overcome the world. Fill me with peace to know that I have no control over anything, but You control everything. Peace to know that all I can control is how I respond and therefore to choose to respond by coming to You. God, I know the Enemy is walking around like a hungry lion trying to fill my heart with impatience and doubt, therefore I know in your Word and prayer, I find my refuge and strength. Jesus, I will fail many times, but I know you are always there to catch me. I know you will always forgive my sins when I confess them. I confess that I lack trust, faith, and patience in You God. Help me strengthen my bond with you so I become unshakable with my faith in You, Lord. Help me surrender all the earthly things that block me from truly being a vessel for You God. I no longer want to be a lukewarm Christian, but I want to be the vessel through which Your light shines. I give up all control as I know you are fully in control of every area of my life! Thank you, Jesus, for your loving grace and mercy. Thank you for dying on the cross for ALL my sins. Amen.

Friends, let’s reach out to one another and help each other. We never have to feel alone in this journey and it always helps to know that God works in and through us. When you find yourself lacking faith, trust or patience, know you are never alone and that is something we all go through from time to time. Jesus knows this and that is why He ALWAYS wants you to turn back to Him, so He can restore you anew. Allow Him to be the Creator so you can patiently and peacefully await His outcome.
